Robert D. Tapp, “Bobby” in the early years and better known as “Bob” in later years, was born on September 15, 1939 in a little farm house east of Lewellen to Clifford and Dorothy (McGill) Tapp.

Bob attended elementary School at District 8 South and then graduated from Lewellen Rural High School in 1957. After graduation, Bob attended Chadron State College for one year and obtained a teaching certificate. His first job was at District #5 south of Lewellen.

Bob and Kay were married on June 18, 1961 at the Lewellen United Methodist Church of which they have been members since childhood.

Bob continued teaching during the school year and attending Summer School at Chadron, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree and then a Master’s Degree in Education. His teaching career included Lewellen Grade School, Lisco Grade School and Wauneta Elementary School as Principal.

He began his career in the insurance business in 1970 and that eventually took the Tapp family to Fort Collins, CO, where they lived until coming back to Lewellen in 1977 to live in the house his Grandpa, Carson McGill, had built around 1915. Bob sold Life, Health, Casualty and Crop insurance over the years, finally specializing in Crop Insurance until his retirement.

Bob was a member of the Ogallala Jaycees, a charter member of the Fort Collins Civitan Club, a Master Mason of Oshkosh Lodge #286, and filled several chairs as well as being the Worshipful Master. He was active in the Lewellen Lions Club, Lewellen Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Lewellen Grade School Board.

Bob always enjoyed woodworking, wood carving, and gardening, but, most of all, being with family and friends playing games and cards.

Bob is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Jeff of Lewellen; daughter, Stefanie and husband Marshall Sanders of Lewellen; brother, Dr. John C. and wife Marcia Tapp of Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Tapp of Lewellen; as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.

Preceding Bob in death were his grandparents, parents, and one brother, Jack.
