Jack Thurow, 75 of Sidney died Tuesday morning, January 11, 2011 at his home in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Jack Jay Thurow was born January 21, 1935 in Sidney, Nebraska, the only child of Gay and Beulah (Hume) Thurow. He spent much of his childhood east of Gurley with his grandmother, Anne Hume. He graduated from Gurley High School in 1953 and came to Sidney where he worked at the Frontier filling station.
On November 18, 1962 he was united in marriage to Ida Anderson at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney. To this union three children were born: Terry, Cynthia and Jacqueline. Jack was associated with the Ford Garage in Sidney for many years before he became a State Farm Insurance Agent in July of 1967. He retired in November of 1999 after 32 years of service.
Ida preceded him in death in 1992 and on March 15, 1996 he married Peggy M. Mangers.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his family and all of his cousins. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church; the Sidney Elk’s Lodge #1894 and had served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Thurow of Sidney, NE; one son Terry Thurow of Lee’s Summit, MO; two daughters: Cindy Wiekhorst of Loveland, CO and Jackie Tremain and husband Kurt of Sidney, NE; step-children: Jeff Finley and wife Lisa of Sidney, NE, Jay Mangers and wife Melanie of Lincoln, NE, Cindy Shapland and husband Lyle of Gering, NE, Debbie Main and husband Rory of Montrose, CO, Kristi Moss and husband Troy of Green River, WY and Lori Peetz and husband Matt of Sidney, NE; 3 grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 9 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
