Donald Hays, 88 of Sidney, Nebraska died early Saturday morning, February 26, 2011 at the Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery with military rites.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home. Friends who wish can stop and sign the register book for Don until 5:00 P.M. Monday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Donald Keith Hays, the son of David and Emily (Garrett) Hays was born on April 27, 1922 in Sharon Springs, Kansas. He had four brothers: Robert, Orville, Bud and Howard and two sisters: Ruby Dismang and Peggy Grimes.
He served in the Navy’s Pacific Fleet during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Tallulah.
He married Dorothy Wagner on January 6, 1944 in San Pedro, California. She was the love on his life for 67 years. They had five children: Irene, Donald, Karen, Daryll and Richard.
During his lifetime he worked numerous jobs in ranching, farming and construction. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with horses. After retirement Don and Dorothy moved to Sunol, Nebraska where he took great pride in caring for his lawn and garden.
Don was proud of his military service and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Sidney, NE; sons: Donald (Sherry) of Victorville, CA, Daryll (Darcy) of Crawford, NE and Rick (Roiann) of Sidney, NE; daughters: Irene (Tom Weldon) of Sparks, NV and Karen (Fred Arnold) of Casper, WY; sister Peggy Grimes of Simla, CO; 16 Grandchildren: Kevin Kuskie, Cheryl Jansen, Debbie Butler, Malissa Weldon, Kelly Dingus, Caryn Guilford, Kristina Cookson, David Hays, Dennis Booth, Barbara Booth, Aaron Arnold, Joseph Hays, Lisa Hays, Casey Hays, Christopher Hays and Tara Beeman; 24 Great-grandchildren and 2 Great, great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his in-laws: Evelyn Read, Dorothy Wagner, Arthur and Eleanor Wagner, Agnes and William McCurry, Norma Hopkins, Jack and Betty Todd and Laurine Meininger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and sister Ruby.
