Alvin Narjes, 88 of Sidney, Nebraska died early Tuesday morning, April 5, 2011 at the Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 8, 2011 in the Trinity Lutheran Church, South Divide with Pastor Daniel Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to The Lutheran Hour, Trinity Lutheran Church or Zion Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado.
Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Alvin William Edward Narjes, the son of Gustav and Emma (Nienhuser) Narjes was born October 20, 1922 on the family farm southeast of Sidney. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Sidney High School in 1941. Alvin was baptized, confirmed and on January 6, 1946, married to Gladys Brauer at Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was active in his local church serving on many boards throughout the years. Beyond his local church, he had the privilege of serving on the Board of Regents of the St. Louis Seminary for nine years.
His interest in farming led him to serve on the Soil and Water Conservation Board, the South Platte Natural Resources Board and the Nebraska Resource Commission.
Survivors include his wife Gladys of Sidney, NE; one son David and wife Kristina Narjes of Sidney, NE; one daughter Julianne Hardinger and husband Philip of Lakewood, CO; one brother Paul Narjes of Sidney, NE; 7 Grandchildren, 8 Great-grandchildren and 8 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son Daryl; sisters Frieda and Bernice Narjes; brothers Edward, Frederick and William and sister-in-laws Evelyn and Naida Narjes.
