Paul Gerhardt Carl Narjes, 91, beloved father and grandfather, was called home by his Lord on Thursday morning, August 25th at the Memorial Health Center Extended Care in Sidney, NE.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 29th, 2011 in the Trinity Lutheran Church - South Divide, south of Sidney with Pastor Daniel Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to either the Lutheran Hour or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Friends may call Sunday, August 28th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Paul was born November 20, 1919, to Emma (Nienhuser) and Gustav Narjes at their home south of Sidney. He was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church – South Divide where he held many offices within the church and was involved with Lutheran Laymen’s League. Paul attended Sidney Public Schools graduating in 1938, followed by working on the family farm before being drafted into the service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942-1945 in the Pacific theatre. After returning to Sidney, he engaged in a farming career where he began his own agricultural operation. On November 14, 1948, he was united into marriage to Evelyn Brauer at Trinity Lutheran Church and resided at their South Divide family farm until 1982 when they moved to their Sidney home. Over the years, he enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, and being an agricultural producer.
Survivors include one son, Gary and wife Susan Narjes of Sidney, NE; two daughters, Linda and husband Lyle (Skip) Vigen of Bemidji, MN and Rita and husband Doug Hart of Sidney, NE; one son-in-law Larry Decker of Apple Valley, CA. Grandchildren include: Kyle Narjes, Ryan and wife Laura Narjes, Tyson Narjes, Kevin Decker, Kendra and husband Terry Meyer, Don and wife Paula Vigen, Heidi and husband Kris Seitz, Allyson and Taylor Hart and step grandchildren Dan and wife Michelle Hart and Amanda Hart, along with 8 great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister-in-law, Gladys Narjes of Sidney, NE, along with many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Kathleen Decker; brothers, William, Fredrick, Alvin and Edward; sisters, Frieda and Berniece; sister-in-law, Naida and nephew, Daryl.
