Lula G Colling, 93 a former Sidney resident, passed away at Del Mar Gardens in Lenexa, KS on November 7, 2011.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:00am at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney, NE, with Pastors Thomas Hyde and Alan Foutz officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-8pm on Friday with the family present from 6-8pm.

Lula was born April 22, 1918 in Wilsonville, NE to Neils P and Sine Holtze Lang. She was one of a family of ten children, who grew up on a farm, and went to a rural school, graduating from Wilsonville NE High School in 1935. She took “normal training” in high school, so she could teach in rural schools. She then went to Kearney and attended college for one year. After college she taught the little kids for ten years and loved it so much.
On October 21, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Charles C Colling in Wilsonville, NE. To this union three children were born. They started out their marriage in Cheyenne, WY and moved to Sidney in 1948, to open the Maytag store. Later she and Charles operated Chucks’ Appliance Service. After Charles died, Lula moved to Kimball, to be near Hedy and then to Hastings to be near Charla. After Charla passed away she moved to the Kansas City area to be near Vance.
Lula was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and also a former member of VFW Post 610 auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter Hedy (Ronald) Hiett of Kimball, NE and son Vance (Wendy) Colling of Shawnee, KS. She also has one sister-in-law Geraldine (Dick) Briener of Loveland, CO. Her grandchildren are Dalan Hiett (fiancé Amy Selvig) of Sidney, Jana (Matt) Koth of Bellevue, Kayla (Ty) Shoemaker of Hastings, (Vances’ children) Thomas Colling, Steven Colling and Paige Manka. She also has six great grandchildren, Alex, Aron and Austen Koth; Addison, Bailey and Coy Shoemaker, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles and daughter Charla Skinner, son-in-law Dennis Skinner, infant granddaughter Sena Colling, brothers Laverne, Darl, Ervin and Edmond Lang, and sisters Delta Bennett, Anna Skiles, Hannah Washburn, Lillian Lemaster and Ellen Miller.
