Gladys E. Narjes, 89 of Sidney, Nebraska was called home by her Lord Tuesday evening, November 22, 2011 at the Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 26, 2011 in the Trinity Lutheran Church, South Divide with Pastor Daniel Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to The Lutheran Hour, Trinity Lutheran Church or Zion Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado.
Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Gladys Emma Brauer was born September 28, 1922 to Erna (Teufert) and Arthur Brauer at her grandparents home in Sidney. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran where she was a lifelong member. She attended grade school at Trinity Lutheran School before graduating from Sidney High School in 1940. She was a secretary for County Attorney Kepler for 2 ½ years and became Deputy County Clerk for 2 ½ years.
On January 6, 1946 she married Alvin Narjes at Trinity Lutheran Church, South Divide, making their home on a farm southeast of Sidney for 37 years. Their union was blessed with three children: David, Julianne and Daryl. Daryl was killed in a farm related accident in 1978 at age 20. They moved into Sidney in 1983 where she resided until entering Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in 2010.
Gladys taught Sunday school and was an active member of LWML and Stateliners Extension Club. Besides enjoying her family, she enjoyed her many friends and playing bridge, pitch and 500.
Survivors include one son, David and wife Kristina Narjes of Sidney, NE; one daughter, Julianne Hardinger and husband Philip of Lakewood, CO; 7 Grandchildren: Andrew (Kristen) Narjes of Sidney, NE, Tim (Kari) Narjes of Alliance, NE, Jeremey (Danae) Narjes of Sidney, NE, Matthew (Michelle) Hardinger of Lakewood, CO, Leah (Rich) Lottes of Lakewood, CO, Celeste (Anton) Capaldo-Smith of Culver City, CA and Rachel Hardinger of Lakewood, CO; 8 Great-grandchildren and 8 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by her husband Alvin; one son Daryl; sister Evelyn Narjes; brothers-in-law: Paul and Ed Narjes; sisters-in-law: Berniece, Frieda and Naida Narjes, and one niece Kathleen Decker.
