Otto Schlaman

August 20, 1919 — December 18, 2011

Otto Schlaman, 92 of Sidney, Nebraska died early Sunday morning, December 18, 2011 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 22, 2011 in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Bob Mortvedt officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to Memorial Health Center

Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Otto Henry Schlaman, the son of Dietrich and Doretta (Ahrens) Schlaman was born August 20, 1919 on the family farm near Lodgepole, Nebraska. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Lodgepole, graduating from Lodgepole High School in 1937. He then attended one year of college at Kearney State College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. After his discharge he returned home.

On July 26, 1949 he was united in marriage to Edna Hadden at Lodgepole. They made their home on the farm until 1981 when they moved to Sidney. He actively farmed until 2006.

Otto was a member of the Sidney Elk’s Lodge #1894 and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed visiting and playing cards as well as Nebraska football and volleyball. He liked to watch CNN and Fox news to stay well versed on world events. Before falling and breaking his hip recently, he drove to Lodgepole every morning for coffee.

Survivors include his two daughters: Susan and husband Larry Eurek of Aurora, CO and Sandra and husband Doug Gaspers of Clovis, NM; two grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Marc Bacsafra of Sacramento, CA and Julie and husband Kevin Romig of San Marcos, TX; two great-grandchildren: Sofia and Estella Bacsafra; and one sister Velma Gade of Sunol, NE

He was preceded in death by his wife Edna, two brothers and two sisters.
