Vernele Lessig, 94 of Lincoln, Nebraska and a former Sidney and Gurley resident passed away Sunday morning, April 1, 2012 in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in the First Christian Church in Sidney with Pastor Eric Alm of the Parish of the Plains officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the church of the Donor’s choice or the family to be designated later.
Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the family present from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Vernele Ruth Lessig, the daughter of Ralph and Esther (Swanson) Lundberg was born February 21, 1918 at Sumner, Nebraska. The family moved to Sidney when she was a child. She attended the Sidney Public Schools, graduating from Sidney High School.
In 1938 she was married to Harold Lessig at Harrisburg, Nebraska. They moved to California while he was in the Army. After his discharge in 1947, they returned to the Sidney-Gurley area where she resided until moving to Lincoln in 2010.
Vernele was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Gurley where she was involved in various church organizations. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons: Dennis and wife Charlotte Lessig of Fairview, TX and Bob and wife Jaylene Lessig of Carbondale, CO; one daughter Pam Ford of Lincoln, NE; one grandson Dave and wife Shelley Lessig and their children Dylan and Kaitlyn of Omaha, NE; step-granddaughter Lori and husband Travis Worley and their son Nate of Tennessee; and one sister Maxine Gallock of Fresno, CA
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2002, her twin brother Verle and brother Robert.
