Joan Brunt, 85, of Lewellen, died Monday afternoon, July 30, 2012, at the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Lewellen with Pastor Ezekiel Koech officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established in Joan’s name to the Lewellen Methodist Church, the UMW, or the Garden County Nursing Home.

Joan Brunt was born on June 4, 1927 in Lewellen, Nebraska, the youngest daughter of Samuel Van Allen and Edmonia (Johnson) Delatour. She grew up on the family owned ranch near Blue Creek. She received her education at Curtis and graduated from there.

On December 24, 1946 she was united in marriage to Clayton Monroe Brunt in Lewellen. The couple made their home in at the Chadron State Park while Monroe attended college. They returned to Lewellen where they ran the drug store for a few years. Joan also worked at many of the local cafes as a waitress, including, Vick’s Supper Club, the Ranch House, the Plainsman, and the
COOP.

Joan was a long time member of the Young Matron’s Bridge Club and enjoyed Bunco Club also. She enjoyed reading, embroidery, decorating for holidays and sending greeting cards. Above all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Joan was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church in Lewellen.

She is survived by three children, Cindy and husband Chris Hurlbutt of Oshkosh, Clayton and wife Kathy Brunt of Schuyler, NE, and Cathy and husband Darrell Armbruster of Beaver Dam, WI; seven grandchildren, Mandy (Scott) Plog of Alliance, Ryan (Kassidy) Hurlbutt of Kearney, Abby (Ross) of Kearney, Allan Brunt of Kansas City, MO, Anna Brunt serving in the Peace Corps in El Salvador, Eryn (Chris) Banke of Johnson Creek, WI, and Amber Armbruster of St. Paul, MN; ten great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Leeper of Oshkosh; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2011; parents; step-father, Harry Newton; 3 brothers, Dar, Sam and Eugene; and 5 sisters, Midred, Kathleen, Josephine, Helen and Pauline.
