Vera Hoppes, 91 of Cheyenne, Wyoming and a former Sidney resident died early Saturday morning, August 4, 2012 at the Cheyenne Health Care Center in Cheyenne.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 14, 2012 in the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the Rev. Thomas Hyde of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home. Friends who wish may sign the register book Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Vera Mae Hoppes was born December 13, 1920 at Norcatur, Kansas, the 4th child of Clarence and Edith (Wiggins) Temple. She attended school in Norcatur, graduating from high school in 1938.
On August 13, 1938 she was united in marriage to C. Marvin Hoppes in Oberlin, Kansas. To this union two children were born; a daughter Joyce and son Glenn. They lived in Kansas and farmed several years before moving to Sidney in 1950. Vera moved to Cheyenne in 2008.
Vera was a homemaker, she like to sew and made several lovely quilts. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, joining in 1932.
Survivors include her son Glenn Hoppes of Lemoyne, NE; her daughter Joyce Struebing of Cheyenne, WY; one sister Sue Banzet of Oberlin, KS; 7 Grandchildren; numerous Great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters, 4 brothers and her son-in-law.
