Glenn McCormac

Glenn McCormac, 83, of Oshkosh and Kearney, passed away at his home in Kearney on Monday evening, March 4, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Oshkosh with Pastor Lynn Lutz of the Oshkosh Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Oshkosh City Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy.

Visitation will be held at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh on Thursday from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established to the family to be designated to a project to beautify Oshkosh.

Glenn Dale McCormac was born in October 30, 1929 in Oshkosh to Perry Oman and Myrtle Anna (Mankhey) McCormac. He attended school in Oshkosh and graduated in 1948. After high school he attended diesel technical school in St Louis, MO and worked for the local Ford dealer after graduation.

He enlisted into the Navy on January 12, 1951 for a four year term. Glenn was assigned to Navy flying boats in Patrol Squadron VP-40 as a crewman and had two tours of duty in the Philippines. Their main duty was to patrol the Formosa Straits for shipping between Korea and Formosa. The flight crew was allowed to land in Hong Kong Bay two different times for 3 days rest and recreation. While in the service he was united in marriage to Audrey Mae McCormick on July 4, 1953 in San Diego, California.

After his discharge in February 1955 the couple moved to Torrington, where they adopted their daughter Roxanne. In Torrington, Glenn worked many jobs including auto insurance adjusting and managing a dime store. In 1966, the family welcomed their daughter, Stacy, and moved to Oshkosh so they could take over Glenn’s father’s variety store.

In Oshkosh, Glenn was active in many ways including, the fire department, VFW, Garden County Chamber of Commerce, and serving on the airport authority. Glenn served as the mayor of Oshkosh for a four year term at the time the swimming pool was built. He was extremely proud to be a part of the Oshkosh beautification project as well.

Glenn enjoyed golfing, visits over coffee, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters; Roxanne and husband, Mark Benson of Redlands, California and Stacy and husband, Mike Beatty of Kearney; 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Mariah and Megan Benson and Matthew and Madison Beatty; 1 great-grandchild, Hayden Benson; brother, Don and wife, Carol McCormac of Worland, Wyoming and a host of relatives, neighbors and friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in 2003.
