***Graveside services and burial of ashes will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Oshkosh City Cemetery with Pastor Ray Weinerman officiating.***

A.B. Albee, M.D., 91, of Mesa, Arizona and Oshkosh passed away in Mesa on Sunday, March 31, 2013.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Oshkosh United Methodist Church with Pastor Ray Weinerman officiating. Masonic and military honors will be performed at the church. Private family burial of the ashes will be held at a later date.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Dr. Albert Burrell Albee was born May 2, 1921 eight miles north of Oshkosh on the family farm, delivered by Dr. Morris. He went to the 1 room school house in Antelope Valley where he was the only student in the 7th and 8th grade. Thanks to his brother, Art Albee, who agreed to do his chores, Doc was able to attend Garden County High School despite his dad thinking it was a waste of time to do so. He had to ride his horse to town for school and graduated in 1939. He tried to join the Navy after graduating but was rejected due to athlete’s foot, but, thankfully, once the war broke out though he got right in. He was in the Navy on a destroyer escort in the south Pacific. There was no doctor on the ship but as a pharmacist mate (corpsman) he dealt with any medical problems the crew had. He performed an appendectomy via radio with a doctor so his ship mate would not die. His skipper of the ship offered the opportunity for Doc to go to medical school in the US Naval Reserves B12 program. He went to De Paul University, but the program ended when the war was over

He married Edna Mae Campbell while on a 7 day leave from school and they moved to Lincoln to finish his education. After completing medical school, two sons, and completing his internship and Clarkson Hospital he moved to Oshkosh in 1952. With the help of Dr. Seng he opened his own medical practice and delivered his third son, Dan, in Oshkosh. He spent the next forty years doing what he loved which was caring for the people in the community he grew up it. His patients were family and friends that he knew for generations which is why he loved living and working in Oshkosh.

After Doc retired he spent his remaining years at his home at Lake McConaughy developing Albee’s Subdivisions, riding and repairing his broken down vintage tractors and wintering in Mesa, Arizona.

He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, the Methodist Church and many additional memberships. Doc was instrumental in getting the Garden County Hospital and Nursing Home built with the help of many other citizens of Garden County.

He is survived by his friend, Genevieve Meyer, his sister, Grace Polk, sons, Burrell and Lisa Albee, Russ and Renee Albee and Dan Albee and his partner, Dan Keefe, grandchildren, Laura and Jeff Millemon, Adam and Beckie Albee, Erik and Julie Petau, Luke and Krista Albee, Adriane and Matt Ogden, step grandchildren, Tara and Joe McColloch, Jerad Lucero, 7 great grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Albee and his siblings, Art Albee, Fred Albee, infant brother, Earl Albee, Alice Nelson, Ann Cooper, and Dorothy Wilkinson.
