Bina Schwartz

Bina Schwartz went to be with her Lord on April 10, 2013 at her home near Oshkosh, NE, with her husband, Dale, and her daughters by her side.


Visitation with the family is from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14th, at Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh.


Funeral services will be at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 15th with Wayne Fraass, P.M.A. officiating. Interment will follow at the Oshkosh Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in care of the family.

Bina was born May 9, 1941 at Oshkosh, NE, the oldest child of Howard and Victoria (Merlo) Cool. Her siblings include Dinah Haberthier of Rockvale, CO, Dorothy Cool of Cañon City, CO, Darrel (Juliette) Cool of Rockvale, CO and Steve (Cindy) Cool of Cañon City, CO.

In 1959, Bina graduated from Garden County High School where she was voted "Most Likely to Succeed". She did. In 1962, she received the Senior Student Ideal Nurse Award. She worked for many years in Garden County as a Registered Nurse both at the hospital and as a home health care nurse. She dedicated her life to bringing comfort to the suffering.


On September 9, 1962, after completing nurses training, Bina Cool married her best friend, Dale Schwartz who had just been honorably discharged from the Army. Bina and Dale had three children: Eric, b. September 1, 1964; Anita, b. April 19, 1967; and Carla, b. August 26, 1971.


Besides working, teaching Sunday school and farming, Bina indulged her creativity in sewing. As head of the decorating committee of the St. Mark's Lutheran Smorgasbord for many years, she designed and built beautiful holiday crafts. She also sewed clothing for her family, including beautiful prom dresses for her daughters.


Bina also operated Schwartzes Country Store, an eclectic mix of antiques and collectibles which began as a cottage industry before moving to Main Street. She delighted in finding treasures at auctions.

Bina was dedicated to promoting agriculture. She farmed side-by-side with her husband for over 50 years. She also served on many boards including the National Farmers' Organization, and the FSA Board.


She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Eric.

She will be greatly missed by all her family. She is survived by her husband, Dale; her children: Anita Schwartz (Mike Halik) of Lincoln, NE., Carla (Daniel) Vanderford of Eufaula, AL.; seven grandchildren: Kerri Krauter, Kelli (Jeremy) Davis, Kayla Krauter, Abigail Krauter, Aaron Vanderford, Isaac Vanderford, and Spencer Leach; and three great-grandchildren.
