Shirley Gortemaker, 82, of Oshkosh, passed away Wednesday morning, May 22, 2013, at the Garden County Health Services in Oshkosh.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Oshkosh with Pastor Sarah Cordray officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or to the Garden County Nursing Home.

Shirley Maxine Gortemaker was born on January 28, 1931 on the Carr farm near Springview, Ne. to Lawrence and Audrey (Carr) Gibson. She attended elementary school and high school in Springview, NE. She graduated from Keya Paha High School in 1949 with a regent’s scholarship and later taught school. She also worked in Ogallala for an eye doctor.
She met Gerald Gortemaker in 1954 and on August 7, 1954, they drove to Denver. Co and were married. Two sons blessed this union and the remainder of her life was dedicated to her family. She loved nurturing her family and worked hard beside each of them.
Her passions included gardening, cooking, traveling, and exploring, and spending time with the little ones. She was a member of St Mark’s Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary, and served the grade school through the mentoring program.
She is survived by her sons Jim (Terri), Gary (Kerri). Siblings Ruth (Bill) Most, Joan (Jack) Bogut, and Lonnie Gibson; grandchildren Dr Joshua (Julie) Gortemaker, Dr Lindsay (Matt) Seidel, Dr Jayme (Rich) Anderson, Geremy Gortemaker, Melissa (Travis) Cooley, and Desarae (Chris) Schulthiess- Martin. Great grandchildren, Jacob Gortemaker, Henry Seidel, Bryce Anderson, Trissa and Cydnie Wilson, Preston Schultheiss, and Whytlea Cooley; numerous nieces and nephews; and a loving and dedicated family of in-laws John (Dixie) Gortemaker and Fern (Paul) Robinson.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, parents, grand son-in-law, Trent Wilson, and a niece, Gina.
