John Stasch, 86 of Sidney, Nebraska died Wednesday evening, May 29, 2013 at Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, June 1, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with the Rev. Thomas Hyde officiating. Inurnment will be in the Valentine Cemetery at Valentine, Nebraska at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Wounded Warriors.
Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home. Friends who wish can sign the register book Friday afternoon at the funeral home.
John LaVerne Stasch, the son of John and Josephine (Koralewski) Stasch was born October 7, 1926 at Cody, Nebraska. He graduated from Cody High School in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was trained in aviation ordinance. After his discharge in 1946 he began a long career with Mobil Oil working as a distributor in Kilgore, Nebraska.
On April 11, 1953 he was united in marriage to Delores Peterson in Valentine, Nebraska. He was transferred to Sidney in 1965 where he operated a Mobil Service Station and bulk plant until 1983 when Mobil discontinued operations in Nebraska.
After retiring he worked multiple jobs and served as trustee of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed collecting Mobil memorabilia and had an extensive collection which was given to his sons when the family home was sold in 2012.
John was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a 67 year member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Delores Stasch of Sidney, NE; his children: Dr. Jeffrey Stasch of Garden City, KS, Eric Stasch and wife Kathy of Pierre, SD and Shelley and husband Tom Corry of Portland, OR; Grandchildren: Trevor Corry, Cameon (Jesse) Blaser, and Nicole and Bryce Stasch and Great-granddaughters Emry and Ellie Blaser.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
