Walter "Walt" Queen

April 30, 1925 — July 29, 2013

Walter Mathew Queen, 88, of Scottsbluff and formerly of Lisco, went to meet his Lord at his home in Scottsbluff on Monday morning, July 29, 2013 with his wife and two daughters by his side.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday Aug. 1, 2013 at the Lisco Presbyterian Church with Pastor Duane Dunwoody officiating. Burial will follow in the Lisco Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh.

Memorials may be made in Walter’s name to the Lisco Presbyterian Church or the Lisco American Legion care of Lisco State Bank PO Box 105, Lisco, NE 69148.

Walter was born at Lisco, Nebraska on April 30, 1925 to Jay and Velma (Cunningham) Queen. He attended several country schools in Garden County during his elementary years. He attended Lisco High School. He married Patricia Ray on March 9, 1942. To this union 3 children, Asa, Janet, and Carrye, were born.

Walter was in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He worked for Rush Creek Land and Livestock for 55 years working his way to Vice President and General Manager. His last years working were President and General Manager of Coldwater Fish Farms. He was a member and Elder of Lisco Presbyterian Church and on the Lisco School Board. He was a member of the Ed Cain American Legion Post. He retired in 2004.

Walter is survived by his wife Patricia (Ray) Queen; daughters, Janet Solley of Scottsbluff and Carrye and husband, David Meints of Filley, NE; daughter-in-law, Helen Queen of Spearfish, SD; grandchildren, Asa Queen and wife, Nancy of St. Paul, MN, Mathew Queen and wife, Dawn of Nisland, SD, David Queen and wife, Kim of Fort Bragg, CA, Leslie Huff and husband, John of Mission Viejo, CA, Deena Hecker and husband, Rick of Gulfport, MS, George Hofman and wife, Linda of Richland, WA, Sarah Grosz of Bellevue, NE, and Matt Meints and wife, Kate of Pickrell, NE; 8 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Velma; son, Asa Jay Queen; brother, Asa C. Queen; sister, Lorene Moss; and a great-grandson, Justin Walgren.
