Phyllis Mussey, 78 of Sedgwick, Colorado passed away late Monday evening, October 7, 2013 at the Sedgwick County Memorial Nursing Home in Julesburg, Colorado with her family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 12, 2013 in the Assembly of God Church in Chappell, Nebraska with Pastor Rich Graff officiating. Burial will follow in the Sedgwick Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Chappell.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Chappell Assembly of God Church.
She was born to John and Wanda Jones in Langlade County, WI. She graduated West Bend High School and later from Central Bible College in Springfield, MO. After her father died, she moved to California with her mother and brother. While visiting Nebraska in 1959, she met Clifford Mussey, part of a wheat harvesting crew, and married the following year, in Morganhill, CA, after a letter-writing and telephone romance. They lived together in Commerce City, CO for 44 years before relocating to Sedgwick, CO.
In her early days, she worked at a canning factory, at Amity Leather, did child care for neighbors and as a baker at Western Electric's cafeteria. Later, she did child care for all four of her grandchildren up until starting first grade. Reading was her favorite hobby throughout her life. She played league volleyball and bowling, loved watching sports, especially the Broncos, Packers and Olympics. Growing up on a farm, she was fond of cows, donkeys, dogs and especially cats. She loved Jesus and the fellowship and support of her church family. She actively supported missionaries, participated at the senior center, and was on the Sedgwick town board. She was rich with friends.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Mussey, of Sedgwick, CO; two sons, Dale Mussey and wife Debbie and Kevin Mussey and wife LaVeta all of Aurora, CO; four grandchildren, Devin Mussey and wife Michelle, Jennifer Mussey, Daimi Mussey, and Alex Mussey; two great-grandchildren, Justyne Stroh and Natallai Mussey; and her brother, Jim Jones and wife Betty of Antigo, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Wesley Alan Jones.
