Ruth R. Heine, 100 of Gurley, Nebraska died Wednesday afternoon, October 23, 2013 at Sidney Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 26, 2013 in the United Church of the Plains, Presbyterian site in Dalton, Nebraska with Pastor Leon “Bud” Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow in the Dalton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the family present.

Memorials have been established to the Gurley Rescue Unit or the Leyton Public Schools Foundation.

Ruth R. Heine, the daughter of Charles and Florence (Miller) Richard was born November 2, 1912 at Fairbury, Nebraska. The family moved to western Nebraska when she was a child and settled in the Sunflower community where she attended school and graduated from high school.

In 1932 she married John Whiting and to this union two sons Dick and Larry were born.
In 1944 she was united in marriage to Oness Berry and they had three children, Dianne, Nolan and Janice. He preceded her in death in 1953.

On May 7, 1960 she married Ernie Heine and they moved to Dalton in 1962. While in Dalton she worked as a nurse’s aid at the Dalton Hospital and at Lodgepole Plaza Nursing Home in Sidney. After she “retired” she worked as a care giver for elderly women in Dalton. After Ernie’s death in 1995 she moved to Gurley where she lived in her own home until this past May when she moved in with her daughter Janice and her husband John.

Ruth lived her life with a positive attitude and was known for her famous smile. Family meant everything to her.

Survivors include her sons: Dick and wife Linda Whiting of Catlett, VA, Larry and wife Eunice Whiting of Columbus, NE and Nolan and wife Reenie Berry of Gering, NE; her daughter Janice and husband John Jordan of Gurley, NE; step-children: Ernie Heine, Jr. and wife Vera and Alma Freouf all of Scottsbluff, NE and Lloyd Heine of Gering, NE; one brother Wayne Richard of Boise, Id; 10 Grandchildren, 17 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great, great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a daughter Dianne Berry, four step-children: Ilene Cherry, Pauline Richardson, Junior Berry and LeRoy Berry; sisters: Grace, Ethel, Mary and Florence; brothers: Elmer, Earl, and Raymond and one great-grandson Seth Kruse.
