Ione Loyd, 99, of Oshkosh passed away Thursday evening, December 5, 2013 at the Garden County Health Services Nursing Home in Oshkosh.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Oshkosh United Methodist Church with Pastor Ray Weinerman officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. in Arthur, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh with the family present.

A memorial has been established in Ione’s name to the Garden County Nursing Home, the Oshkosh United Methodist Church or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Ione was born June 23, 1914 at Benedict, Ne. in York county to Swedish parents, Henry and Dena Swanson and Swedish grandparents August and Augusta Renquist of Stromberg, Ne. Her first year at school was a country school in York County before attending the consolidated school in Benedict.
In 1925, she moved with her parents to Arthur County, where she attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Arthur County High School in 1932. When in high school, Ione chose to be baptized in the Charlie Curry Lake near Arthur by Rev. Parker of the Baptist church.
For three years she taught school in Garden County at Lakeside Ne.
In 1936, she married her high school sweetheart, Ray Loyd, in Alliance NE.
After their marriage, they worked for 7 years at Horde's ranch in Garden County before moving back to Arthur, Ne where they worked another 7 years for Joe Sibel.
Ray and Ione moved to Oshkosh, NE in 1951 where they lived on a farm west of Oshkosh and later moved into town.
Ione worked at Midwec Corporation for 16 years. Ione was radio dispatcher in their home and she cooked for the jail while Ray was county sheriff.
She was a member of the United Methodist church where she was active in Sunday school and the United Methodist Women's Society. Ione helped with several fund raisers for the cause and cure for Multiple Sclerosis. Ray and Ione hosted annual picnics for a local MS group from Ogallala, where she, Ray and Kay were members.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray in 1996, her daughter Kay in 1989, and a stillborn son, Jerry Ray in 1940. Others who preceded in death were her mother and father, brothers, Virgil and Donald Swanson, sisters Lola Aufdengarten, Lois Walz and two infant sisters and one infant brother and grandson, JR Barnett.
Ione survived by her son, Kent (Kathleen) Loyd, granddaughters, Rae Ann Barnett and Jesseca (Tom) Williams, grandsons, Nathan (Liz) Loyd and Jared Loyd. Great grandchildren include Kelley (Tom) Staber, Katie Nungesser, Molly Barnett, Kaylee Bell, Alyssa Williams, Chris Loyd, Gracie Loyd, Logan Nungesser and Brody Buresh. Survivors also include sister, Doris Buck, and sister in law Rosalie Swanson.
