Jenny (Ida) Fischer, 93 of Chappell, Nebraska went to be with her heavenly father on Saturday morning, February 8, 2014 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney, Nebraska.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chappell with Father Michael McDonald officiating. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday evening at the church. Burial will be in the Chappell Cemetery.
The visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at the church.
A memorial has been established to be determined by the family at a later date.
Ida Genevieve (Jenny) Fischer was born on November 22, 1920 to John and Maude (Brooks) Melvin in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
At the age of 18 she married Pius Fischer on December 3, 1938 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota and to this union five children were born. They eventually settled in Black Hawk, South Dakota where they raise their family. Jenny was a homemaker and even when times were hard, she always managed to make a meal out of the simplest ingredients. She will be missed for her breads and cinnamon rolls among other things.
After moving to Chappell, Nebraska, one of her favorite things to do was rocking babies at the daycare. She also looked forward to going to church on Sundays and seeing her many friends. She had a very strong faith in the Lord.
Survivors include two sons: Elroy (Wanda) Fischer of Chappell, NE and Ron (Lori) Fischer of Shelby, NE; three daughters: Nancy (Ted) Waugh of Hershey, NE, JoAnn (Glenn) McDaniel of Deadwood, SD and Rosemary Farel of Chappell, NE. She is also survived by 14 Grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 5 great, great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pius in 2000, her five brothers and sisters and a great-grandson Liam.
