Josephine "Jo" Christensen

October 4, 1926 — April 10, 2014

            Josephine Helen Christensen, 87, of Oshkosh, passed from this life Thursday morning, April 10, 2014 at the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Oshkosh with Brenda Tophoj, PMA officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen.

            Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh.

            Memorials are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

            Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the Christensen family.

            Josephine was born October 4, 1926 at Lewellen, Nebraska to Charlie and Goldie (Junod) King.  She attended and graduated from Lewellen public schools in 1944.  Jo met Gilbert E Christensen in 1945 and they were married on June 9, 1946.  They moved to the sandhills where Gilbert did ranch work and that is where their sons were born. In 1959 they bought a salvage yard outside of Oshkosh.  Then in 1984 they sold the salvage yard and moved into the house that her parents lived in for many years.  Jo was a beloved wife, mother, and homemaker for those years. 

            Jo was a master seamstress making her family’s clothes, along with other people’s requests such as wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses.  She worked at the Oshkosh Senior Center for several years.

            She will be sincerely missed by her sons, Rodney and wife Arlene of Dacono, CO and Curlie and wife Connie of Bridgeport, NE; grandchildren, Felecia Christensen, Tanya and husband Brent Fitch, Eric and Johana Christensen, Trenton Christensen, Brandy and husband Paul Self, and Andy Zimmerman; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clyde King and Ralph King and several nieces and nephews.

            Jo was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilbert, brothers, Raymond and Lee, and sister, Ruth.
