Floyd “Joe” Emerson, 81, a longtime resident of Lisco Nebraska passed away late Wednesday afternoon, May 28, 2014 at the VA Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyoming with his loving family at his side.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday the 4th day of June 2014 at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh Nebraska with Father Mike McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the Lisco Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour before services Wednesday morning.
Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh is serving the Emerson family.
Memorials are designated to the Lisco and Oshkosh VFWs.
Floyd Joseph Emerson was born May 17, 1933 in Alliance, Nebraska to Harold Dean Emerson and Ruth (Withers) Emerson.
Joe attended and completed all of his education in Garden County and graduated in 1950. He then served proudly active duty in the US Army, stationed in Germany.
Joe was a student at the University of Nebraska (studying Agri-Business) when he met Peg (McCarthy) Emerson who was a student at the Lincoln School of Commerce, where she was pursuing a degree in accounting. The couple was united in marriage June 21, 1958. Born of this union were four children: Scott Patrick, Sandra Joan, Shari Anne, and Stuart Michael.
The Emerson’s spent the majority of their married life farming and ranching near Lisco, Nebraska.
Joe was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards to include the Lisco Grade School, Garden County High School Board, the Lisco Irrigation District Board, the Garden County Fair Board, and later in life the Veteran Affairs Board.
He was also very involved in his children’s activities to include assistant of the Cub Scouts Master in Lisco, 4-H leader of the Lisco 4-H club, High School Rodeo Coach, and was an active member of the Nebraska High School Rodeo Parent s Association.
Later in life, Joe competed and won many events in Senior Olympics.
Joe is fondly remembered by his family and friends for his pranks and sense of humor, his incredible strength, his love of animals, and appreciation of mother nature.
He is survived by his children, Scott and wife Pam Emerson of Lago Vista, TX, Sandra Hammons of San Diego, CA, Shari Emerson-Gantt of Oklahoma City, OK, and Stuart Emerson of Elko, NV, grandchildren Jason (Kelli) Pruett of Plano, TX, Bobby Gantt of Lisco, NE, Caitlin Gantt of Oklahoma City, OK, Jordan (Chandler) Peyton of Arlington, TX, and Halee Emerson of Lodgepole, NE, Great Grandchildren, Presley Peyton of Arlington, TX, Austin and Sydney Pruett of Plano, TX, and Cody Pruett of Fredericksburg, TX, brother Tom(Marianne) Emerson of Whitman, NE, and Peggy Ladean Emerson of Scottsbluff, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold “Dean” Emerson and Ruth(Withers) Emerson and his wife of 51 years Margaret “Peg” Emerson.
