Mary R. Snow, 84 of Oshkosh, Nebraska passed way Monday August 11, 2014 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 23, 2014 at the Oshkosh City Cemetery. Mary’s request was to be cremated. Mary also requested a simple service, casual attire is encouraged. A gathering of family and friends for a meal will take place following services at the Oshkosh Senior Center.
Memorials are suggested to the Garden County Health Services Foundation, Mary wished to retain health care in Garden County so people could stay in their home community, as she was able to over her life, near friends and family.
Mary Rose Viola was born February 26, 1930 in Lisco, Nebraska, to James and Theresa (Topparo) Viola. She joined her older sister Anna and brother Joe; eventually she also had a younger sister Margaret, who Mary remained very close to her entire life. Mary lived all her life in Garden County; she attended grade school at Lisco then high school in Oshkosh, graduating in 1948. Then she worked as a secretary for several years at the Garden County High School and at Max Garton’s Ford Garage. She married Darrell Snow on February 11, 1955 in Potter, Nebraska. Darrell and Mary resided west of Oshkosh their entire lives, where they raised cattle and horses. In September 1965 they adopted their daughter Tricia.
Mary was a talented seamstress making many personalized blankets, clothing and other items, freehand placing names and important dates on them; these were done prior to computerized sewing machines. Mary also continued to work at a book keeper for the New Holland Dealership owned by Kenny Tucker and then Mary worked at the Kwik Stop from the day it opened for about 20 years.
Mary is survived by her daughter Tricia (John) Davison, sister Margaret (George) Karubas, brother Joe (Audrey) Viola, nieces, Diane, Deb, Helen and Cindy, nephews, Doug, Joey, and Jamie.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Darrell, in 1999, sister, Anna, and niece, Cheryl.
