Bernadine E. Hovorka

June 9, 1929 — October 21, 2014

Bernadine Hovorka, 85 of Chappell, Nebraska and a former Sidney resident passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 21, 2014 at the Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home.

Memorial graveside services and inurnment will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 8, 2014 in the Hillside Cemetery at Julesburg, Colorado.

Bernadine was born June 9, 1929 at Hartington, Nebraska to William and Alice (Smith) Albrecht. As a young child, her parents and brother Alvin, moved in Nebraska and later to Colorado. She started school at Julesburg, Colorado with 2nd and 3rd grade in Ovid, Colorado. She attended the rest of grade school at District #6 south of Julesburg. Many happy carefree hours were spent on a farm in that area. When high school started, the family moved back to Ovid so she could live at home and attended activities and be with friends through those years. Happy hours were spent there with very good friends and bonds which lasted a lifetime were made at that time.

After graduation in 1947 she married William Barnica. To this union three sons were born; Lance, Lorn and Lavern. In about 1955 the family moved to Boulder, Colorado and lived there for 28 years. After the boys were gone away from home William and Bernadine moved to Chappell to be close to aging parents. Bill passed away on June 7, 1999.

On October 27, 2000 Bernadine and Thomas Hovorka met and married. The lived in Sidney, Nebraska until 2002 when they moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico. They had many wonderful trips and happy days with family and friends. Bernadine was a member of the Church of Christ at Fox and Lake in Carlsbad.

Those left at her passing are her husband Thomas of Chappell, NE; her sons: Lance and wife Sara Barnica of Sedgwick, CO and Lorn and Lavern Barnica both of Chappell, NE; step-sons Byron Hovorka of Custer, WA and Paul Hovorka and wife Debra Hovorka of Holcomb, KS; many precious grandchildren, step-grandchildren, 2 Great-grandchildren and wonderful nieces and nephews.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Chappell assisted the family with the cremation.
