Pauline Ruth (Sauer) Vass, the eldest daughter of Paul Robert John and Ruth Lorene (Vickers) Sauer was born in her grandmother’s home in Ogallala, Nebraska on June 4, 1924.

Her father worked for the Union Pacific Railroad so she and her only sister attended several schools while they were growing up.

On August 10, 1941 she united in marriage to Henry Harold Vass in her parents’ home in Big Springs, Nebraska. To this union three sons were born, Harold Paul, Eugene Henry and Orville Allen.

Pauline and her son were baptized on January 10, 1943 and she helped with the Sunday school, sang in the choir, served in the Women’s Society of Christian Women. She served as an officer on the Northwest District Women’s Society of Christian Women for eight years. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and served as a recorder for many years.

Pauline helped to organize the first 4H Club in the county and served as a leader for 16 years.

After Orville reached high school she went to work as a bookkeeper until she reached the age of 63 years, and the Sapp Brothers Truck Stop in Julesburg, Colorado was taken over by another company.

In 1983 she and Henry moved into Chappell, Nebraska where she was able to grow roses and other flowers since water was more plentiful. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting besides other crafts.

Pauline was the loving wife of Henry Vass; she was a devoted mother of her three sons and their families. She was always there to help whenever she could. She loved her sons and families, her 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 18 great, great-grandchildren and 4 Great, great, great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. We loved her very much.

She leaves to mourn her passing her three sons and the wives: Harold and Janet Vass of Gothenburg, NE, Eugene and Jeanie Vass of Denver, CO, and Orville and Donna Vass of Big Springs, NE; 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 18 great, great-grandchildren, 4 Great, great, great-grandchildren and her sister Virginia Pearl Rasmussen of Fremont, NE; two nieces and one nephew.
