Gerald H. Charlton

November 2, 1926 — February 25, 2015

Gerald Charlton, 88, of Chappell passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 25th, 2015.

Cremation has taken place and per Gerald's wishes there will be no services at this time.

Gerald Hugh Charlton was the last of four children born to Owen Charlton and Renee (Sinnott) Charlton on November 2, 1926. He grew up in Williams' Minnesota on the family farm and enjoyed living there especially during the winter. He loved to play ice hockey and spent many hours doing so with family and friends.

Gerald graduated high school in 1944, and in 1945 he enlisted in the Merchant Marines. After spending three years in the Merchant Marines he went on to join the Air Force in 1949. He served in many places and saw a great many of the European ports. He retired after 20 years as a decorated Senior Master Sergeant who served with distinction. While serving in the Air Force he also received his Associate of Arts degree in 1964 from Allen Hancock College in Santa Maria, California. In 1969 Gerald went to work for Satter Industries where he worked another 20 years and then retired.

On June 6, 1953 Gerald married Mildred Johnson. Together they had two children Gregory Paul and Nancy Lynn. Gerald enjoyed lapidary and was an avid golfer, he also loved watching football, hockey, and baseball. Most summer weekends were spent with the whole the family camping, fishing and enjoying adventures together when the kids were young. He was a smart, kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Gerald is survived by his wife Mildred Charlton of Chappell Nebraska, son Gregory P. Charlton and his wife Lori Charlton of Aurora Colorado, his daughter Nancy Charlton Vetter and her husband Ron Vetter of Chappell Nebraska, a grandson Garrett Vetter of Chappell Nebraska, and sister Ruth Hall of Williams Minnesota.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Owen and Renee, and his brothers Dennis and William.
