Dick Paisley was born at home on September 30, 1933, the forth of five children born to Ira S. and Daisy Paisley of Oshkosh. He attended Lutherville country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Garden County High School in 1952. He married Nancy (Ross) Paisley in 1954 at the United Methodist Church in Oshkosh. Shortly after marriage, Dick was drafted into the U.S. Army, training in Fort Knox, KY and eventually serving in Hanau, Germany with the 23rd Armored Engineers. In 1957, Dick was discharged from the Army and returned to the family farming and ranching operation that continues today.
Dick and Nancy remained in Garden County, raising four sons who were all active in Garden County High School, 4-H, and Rodeo activities. Dick was committed to the Garden County community, a member of the Oshkosh United Methodist Church, serving on the Garden County School Board for 22 years, Ash Hollow Cemetery District, Garden County Fair Board, Natural Resources District (eventually FSA), Paisley and Midland/Overland Irrigation Districts, as well as a member of the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association. During his farming and ranching career, Dick transitioned the family beef herd from Hereford in the 50’s and 60’s to a regionally recognized commercial Angus herd. In 1975, Dick installed one of the first center pivot irrigation systems north of Lewellen. The Paisley family was recognized for stewardship and innovation by receiving the North Platte Valley Conservation district award in 1976. Although recognized for farming practices, Dick’s passion was ranching and raising cattle. He enjoyed riding well-mannered horses and roping at all area brandings. He instilled a strong, no-nonsense work ethic in his children as well as a passion for agriculture, community and family.
