While in the first grade he developed Legg Perthes Disease and had to wear a cast from the waist down for about a year, doing school in bed with a teacher to student box. He was still able to go and march with the Sidney High School Band at the 1966 Rose Parade. He loved sports, playing baseball and was very good at math, a subject that came naturally to him. He attended Fullerton Jr. College in California, and then Long Beach State where he majored in math, graduating in 1972. He then taught one year at Huntington Beach High School. He decided that he didn’t like teaching went back to farming.
In November of 1978 he was united in marriage to Susan Warren in Las Vegas, Nevada and made their home on a farm southwest of Sidney. To this union three daughters were born: Joni, Sarah and Emily.
Ken took up trucking locally, working for Crossroad Co-op and other farmers. He was a remarkable mechanic, working on diesel engines and could repair about any air conditioning and major appliances. He was also a driving instructor for WNCC. He had double hip surgery in 1980 and had to use two canes in later years.
He loved music, playing the piano and guitar. Ken enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved his pets, always taking in strays; there was always room for more. Later on he developed a love gardening in his huge garden and enjoyed the yard.
