Virgil R Ring 87 died peacefully with family by his side on Sunday July 12, 2015 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, NE.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday July 16, 2015 at Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh with Brenda Tophoj, PMA officiating. Military honors will be provided at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Save The Sandhills Project. savethesandhills.com

He was born on March 5, 1928 in Hyannis Ne to George & Cleo (Rentfro) Ring. He grew up on the family ranch south of Ashby, Ne and attended County School District 32 in the Nebraska Sandhills.
He worked on the family ranch until he was drafted into the Army on Sept 7, 1951. His basic training was in Fort Sil Oklahoma where he received a degree in artillery survey school before being shipped to Japan then to Korea where he served on a front line artillery company during the Korean War.
After his tour of duty he returned to work on the family ranch in the Nebraska Sandhills and in 1960 he married Betty Lake, they raised 2 sons, and a daughter, Daniel, Martin & Jan.
In 1965 Virgil & his family left the Nebraska ranch and moved to Libby, Montana where Virgil worked for the Corps of Engineers at the Libby Dam project on the Kootenai River, he then continued his career in construction, working on dams and bridges in Oregon, Washington & other construction jobs in Alaska.
After he retired he & Betty moved back to Nebraska, where he enjoyed working as the Garden County Veterans Service Officer for 5 years.
Virgil was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying many hunting & fishing trips across the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. He loved everything nature had to offer, including boating and being on the Ocean.
Virgil was a craftsman & could build just about anything. He was a talented wood worker & leather craftsman. He loved to read & travel.
He was a loving father & devoted husband. He took his family on outdoor adventures, sharing his love & respect for the outdoors with them every chance he could.
Virgil is survived by his wife Betty of Bridgeport, Ne; his son Dan and Deb Ring of Lonepine, Montana, his son Martin and Dawn Ring of Orofino, Idaho and a daughter Jan Ring and Brian of Wenatchee, Washington; granddaughters, Mandie Dalimata of Bemidji, Minnesota, Terri Dyer and John of Gering Ne, Elizabeth Ring of Hot Springs, Montana and grandson KaCee Ring and Jacqueline of El Paso, Texas; 7 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters, A sister, June and Jack Thompson of Loveland, Colorado & a brother Merlin and Toni of Hyannis, Ne and many beloved nieces & nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents.
