Conley Kent Hinrichs, 90, of Lincoln passed away peacefully October 24, 2015 at The Waterford care facility in Lincoln, NE.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen with Pastor Jen Brand officiating.
Holechek Funeral Home is assisting with local arrangements.
Born February 21, 1925 to Kurt and Ruth (Stone) Hinrichs in Upland, NE. He graduated Hildreth High School in 1943, immediately entering Naval training at Farragut, ID and San Francisco, CA. Transferred to Charleston, SC and assigned to USS Paul Hamilton DD590. He served the U. S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific theater including Guam, Leyte, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Later stationed at San Diego and Long Beach, CA was honorably discharged in 1946 as Yeoman 3rd class.
He returned to Lincoln to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University where he met Elsie Neth. After graduating in 1950 he attended Seminary School at Duke University in Raliegh, NC. He married Elsie at Brady, NE on July 27, 1952, and graduated from seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree in 1953. He returned to Lincoln to begin his ministerial career with the Nebraska Conference of the Methodist Church with assignments as follows:
St. James Church, Lincoln; Wood River - Alda; Elsie - Madrid; Eustis -Farnham; Sargent - Comstock; Basset - Newport- Rock County; Oshkosh - Lewellen; Sutherland - Hershey; retiring to Lincoln, NE in 1990 to serve as Chaplain for the Lincoln Police and Fire Department until 2007. He also served: as Assistant Statistician for the Methodist Conference; the Board of Directors of Nebraska Methodist Camps; the Board of Ordained Ministry; the United Methodist Communications Conference; the Association of Retired Ministers. He was active in the community Recycling Program and a member of 1st United Methodist Church, Lincoln, NE. He lived with Elsie in University Place in Lincoln until a short hospital stay and moving to The Waterford care center on October 23, 2015.
He is survived by wife Elsie; sons Jim (wife Linda) and Joel of Lincoln.Grandson Dusty (wife Brandi) of Hastings, NE. Granddaughters Jamie and Taylor of Lincoln. Great grandchildren Brandon, Codi and Kassia of Hastings, NE. Brother in laws Charles (wife Beverly) Neth of Waverly, NE and John (wife Bev) Neth of Norfolk, NE. Sister in law Marjory McReynolds of Pullman, WA. Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Brother Keith; son John; grandson
Casey.
