Shirley Mae Yanney, 85, of Lodgepole, Nebraska passed away peacefully on January 9, 2016 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday January 16, 2016 at The United Methodist Church in Lodgepole. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery north of Lodgepole.
A viewing will be held at Holechek Funeral Home on Friday January 15, 2016 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., with the family present from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church in Lodgepole, St. George Orthodox Church in Kearney or Yanney Heritage Park in Kearney.
The youngest of two children, Shirley was born to Andy and Mae (Lowder) Peterson on January 18, 1930 in Lodgepole, NE. She grew up in Lodgepole and graduated from Lodgepole High School. Following her graduation, she attended Kearney State College (UNK). On July 27, 1949 she was united in marriage to E.K. Yanney at St. George Orthodox Church in Kearney, NE.
Shirley and E.K. lived in Kearney for several years and then moved to Lincoln when E.K. was hired to work at the National Bank of Commerce. They lived in Lincoln for several years and then moved back to Lodgepole, where they raised their four children.
As a young woman, Shirley volunteered for the World War II North Platte canteen. She was a volunteer at Lodgepole Museum and at Sidney Memorial Hospital. Shirley belonged to several civic organizations including Eastern Star, United Methodist Women's Auxiliary, and Lodgepole Women's Club. Shirley also served on the Board of Directors at The First State Bank in Lodgepole, NE.
Shirley was a devoted wife, supporting her husband's civic and business activities; often hosting parties for the Shriners and other professional groups and friends. She was also a dedicated mother and a great cook whose greatest joy was her family. She loved the holidays when all the family gets together. Shirley inspired loyalty and devotion from her family members and friends alike.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Barbara, her husband E.K., and her daughter Cathi.
She is survived by her three children: Mary Jo Klinetobe of Lodgepole, NE, Julie Yanney of Brighton, CO and Michele Wehbi of Omaha, NE, son-in-law Terry Klinetobe, son-in-law Brad Franks and wife Sandy of Lodgepole, son-in-law Nizar Wehbi, sister-in-law Mildred (Milly) Shada of Omaha, brother-in-law Vernon (Lee) Yanney of North Platte, and brother-in-law Michael (Gail) Yanney of Omaha. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
