Dorothy Jean Stein, 85 of Sidney, Nebraska passed away early Sunday morning, February 21, 2016 at Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney with her loving family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 25, 2016 in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the family present from 4:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M.
Memorials have been established to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour or the donor’s choice.
Dorothy was born July 18, 1930 in Cheyenne County to Frank and Esther (Nightingale) Deaver. She attended rural schools and graduated from Sidney High School.
On February 16, 1950 she was united in marriage to Harry H. Stein in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church northeast of Potter, Nebraska. They spent their entire married life on the family farm northwest of Sidney. Two sons, Gary and Stan were born to this union. After twenty-five years of marriage, Harry died at his farm home on July 19, 1975. Dorothy moved into Sidney in 1982.
Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, church activities, traveling, gardening, spending time with family and friends and watching her grandchildren grow. In 1995, Dorothy suffered a massive stroke which changed her independent lifestyle. Despite losing most of her verbal communication, Dorothy’s personality was unchanged, remaining bright and upbeat.
Dorothy was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend to all.
Survivors include her son Gary and wife Joan of Sidney, NE and their children Adam (Ally) Stein, Carrie (Matt) Krause and Dana (Clint) Brennan; her son Stan and wife Kathy of Kingman, AZ and his children Jacob, Jesse, Kaleb, Nick, Brandon (Brittany) Stein and Jessmarae (Howie) Gilroy; nine Great-grandchildren; brother Robert (Sharon) Deaver; sisters: Virginia (George) Fiehler, Bonnie (Danny) Penn and Kathy (Tom) Venable; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Dean Deaver and an infant granddaughter.
