Gwen Collins, 89 of Dalton, Nebraska died late Saturday evening, May 21, 2016 at Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney, NE
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 26, 2016 in the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with Rev. Thomas Hyde officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery in Hemingford, Nebraska at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Friends wishing to sign the register book may do so on Wednesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Memorials have been established to the Dalton Fire and Rescue.

Elizabeth Gwendolyn (Allen) Collins, the daughter of Fay and Elizabeth (Joralemon) Allen, was born December 24, 1926 in Chadron, Nebraska. As a young woman, Gwen worked for her family in their café.
On December 29, 1949 she was united in marriage to Earle Edward Gartner in Hemingford. To this union three sons were born: Douglas Earle, Charles Fay and David Alen. Gwen remained married to Earl for four years, until he was sadly killed in a car accident in March of 1954. In 1957 she married Donald Collins at Hemingford. In the early 1960’s, the couple and their six children moved to Sidney where they owned and operated the Sinclair service station. In the early 1970’s, they moved to Alliance where the family owned the Derby station, and remained there until their retirement. During these years, Gwen was a dedicated mother and homemaker, becoming especially known for her expert baking. Family and friends could always count on her home being stocked with her famous chocolate chip cookies.
Survivors include three sons: Douglas and wife Kathy Gartner, Charles and wife Debra Gartner and David Gartner all of Sidney, NE; one step-son Daniel Collins of Sidney, NE; two step-daughters: Marie and husband Steve Groshans of Dalton, NE and Linda and husband Carlos Flores of Sidney, NE; one brother Paul Allen of Tennessee; 13 grandchildren and 18 Great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, Earle and Donald; three brothers: Alfred, Daryl and Robert; granddaughter Renae Gartner and step-granddaughter Kimberly Groshans.
