Edgar Aurich, 89 of Sidney, Nebraska died Thursday morning, June 9, 2016 at his home in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 13, 2016 in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church northeast of Potter, Nebraska with Pastor Ted Bourret officiating. Graveside services and burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney at 1:30 P.M. on Monday.
Memorials have been established to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of rural Potter, the Lutheran Hour Ministries and Sidney Regional Medical Center Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the family present from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Edgar Arthur Aurich, the son of Edwin O. and Martha A. (Pagels) Aurich was born March 16, 1927 on the family farm northeast of Potter. He grew up on the farm and attended grade school at the rural St. Paul’s Lutheran Parochial School. He then attended Potter High School, graduating in 1945. Edgar worked at the Sidney Livestock Auction on Saturday sales and was an active member of the Bunker Hill Baseball Club.
On August 21, 1949 he was united in marriage to Jean Groppe at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney. They made their home in the country west of Gurley before moving to a farm northwest of Potter in 1957. They started a dairy farm which later became a grade A dairy farm. After they retired from the dairy business they continued raising black angus cattle.
Edgar was very involved with his church serving as the first Sunday School Superintendent, a Sunday School Teacher, Secretary of the congregation, a long time Elder and Trustee, served on the boards of Evangelism, Education and Finance committee, and was involved in Lutheran Layman’s League. He assisted with the construction of the parish hall at Salem Lutheran Church in Gurley with Laborers for Christ. He enjoyed his family and ping pong.
Survivors include his wife Jean of Sidney, NE; his children: Donna Boyd and husband Daniel of St. Louis, MO, Dale Aurich and wife Donna of Potter, NE, Colleen Kruse and husband Reinold of Deshler, NE; and Allen Aurich and wife Deanna of Sidney, NE; sister Lola Temme of Billings, MT; brother Rev. Leonard Aurich of Dubuque, IA; Grandchildren: Sarah (Jason) Walker, Paul Boyd, Rachel (Trevor) Beach, Brian (Rachel) Aurich, Scott (Megan) Aurich, Kevin Kruse, Samantha (Matthew) Sinclair, Dane Aurich and Ryan Aurich; and Great-grandchildren: Alexandria Walker, Kiley and Kahlen Aurich, Delaney, Blake and Lucas Aurich and Madalyn and Eugene Beach.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters and 1 brother.
