Leo Nielson, 58 of Sidney, Nebraska died Saturday morning, July 16, 2016 at his home in Sidney.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 21, 2016 in the Czechoslovakian Cemetery south of Sunol with Pastor David Hall of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home. Friends wishing to sign the register book may do so on Wednesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Leo John Nielson, the son of Lloyd and Lamila (Oliverius) Nielson was born on October 3, 1957 at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He grew up in Lodgepole, Nebraska where he attended school. On August 8, 1976 he entered into active duty in the U.S. Army, serving until being honorably discharged on August 29, 1979. He returned to the area and had been employed by the city of Sidney in the solid waste department for 30 years. He was married to Nanette Vizina in Sidney, Nebraska.

 Leo enjoyed motorcycles, hunting and time with family.

Survivors include his wife Nanette Nielson of Sidney, NE; two daughters Chandra Gutierrez and husband Michael of Winslow, AZ and Lara Nielson and Steven Diedrich of Sidney, NE; one step-son Jeremy Olivas-Policky of Tucson, AZ; one step-daughter Brandi Policky of Sidney, NE; one brother Dennis Nielson of New Glarus, WI; three sisters: Cindy and husband Richard of Missouri, Sherri and husband Lonnie of Kansas and Roslin Rathje of Hasting, NE and 11 Grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
