Vergie Atkins, 94 of Sidney, Nebraska died Saturday afternoon, July 23, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Sidney.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 29, 2016 in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney with The Rev. Corey Jenkins of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Thursday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church.
Vergie Marie Atkins, the daughter of Virgil R. and Maude (Larson) Atkins was born July 26, 1921 in Sidney, Nebraska. She grew up in Sidney and was baptized in the Methodist Church. She attended the Sidney schools, graduating in 1939. After school she worked as a secretary in Paul Martin’s attorney office. She moved to Arizona where she lived for over 40 years. She worked in a furniture store and for a meat distribution company while in Arizona. She was active in the Methodist Church while living there, especially after she retired. Vergie returned to Sidney in 2005. She loved animals.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Carol Atkins of Sidney, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Phyllis and five brothers: Barney, Oak, Neal, Dick and Howard Atkins.
Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Sidney is serving the Atkins family.
