Gerald (Jerry) Wittrock, 88 of rural Lodgepole, Nebraska passed away November 28, 2016 at his home northwest of Lodgepole.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 5, 2016 in the Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Gurley, Nebraska with Pastor Wayne Pouppirt officiating. Burial with follow in the Weyerts Cemetery with military rites.
Memorials have been established to the Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour.
There will be no visitation held.
Gerald Hugo Wittrock was born August 23, 1928 to Fred and Elanora (Haack) Wittrock on a farm north of Potter, Nebraska. He attended school district #12 north of Dix, Nebraska in Kimball county where he received his 8th grade diploma in 1943.
He worked for local farmers until enlisting in the U.S. Army on February 19, 1951. He served in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in April of 1957.
On August 16, 1958 he was united in marriage to Lois Florke at the Weyerts church. For a short time they lived north of Dix before they bought a farm northwest of Lodgepole where their twins Gayla and Galen joined them. Jerry worked several years as a mechanic before working as a grader operator for the Cheyenne County Roads Department. He retired from the county after 25 years of service. He enjoyed farming and working on the farm until his death. He truly enjoyed mechanic work and tinkering with the equipment and especially time with his family and grandkids.
Survivors include his daughter Gayla and husband Eric Christofferson of Sidney, NE; his son Galen Wittrock of Lodgepole, NE; three sisters: Charlotte Weigel of Kimball, NE, Mavis Johnson of Grahm, TX and Eileen and husband Tim Jensen of Gunnison, CO; brother-n-laws: Vernon Florke of Lodgepole, NE, Dale and wife Linda Florke of Cheyenne, WY and Doyle and wife Cindi Florke of Omaha, NE and Wes Moench of Kimball, NE; a sister-in-law Marilyn Wittrock of Burns, OR; three grandchildren: Kyle and wife Esperanza Christofferson, Brandon Christofferson and Kaitlyn Christofferson; one great-grandson Kyzer Christofferson and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lois; two sisters and 2 brothers: an infant Elaine Florence Wittrock, Elaine Laura Moench, Merlin and Art.
