Walter J. Applegate

Walter Applegate, 70 of Chappell, Nebraska died Tuesday evening, January 24, 2017 at Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care in Sidney, Nebraska.

            A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 29, 2017 in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chappell with Father Matt Koperski officiating. Services will conclude at the church.

            Cremation has been held and there is no visitation at the funeral home.

            Memorials may be made to the Chappell Fire Department and E.M.S. or to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

            Walter John Applegate, the son of Charles and Catherine (Jusaitis) Applegate was born October 31, 1946 in Darby, Pennsylvania. He attended St. Clement’s grade school and C.B.C. High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then attended Northern Arizona State in Flagstaff, Arizona for two years. He moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1969 where in May he met his future wife Teresa Diener. They were married on August 7, 1971 in the Old Cathedral in St. Louis and were married for over 45 years. Walter worked as a baker in the grocery business. In retirement they moved to Chappell to be closer to family.

            Survivors include his wife Teresa of Chappell, NE; two sons: Jeremy and wife Randi Applegate of Chappell, NE and Brian and wife Patti Applegate of Peoria, IL; a brother Charles Applegate and wife Mariann of Darby, PA; three sisters: Cathy and husband Tom Hale of Stafford, VA, Chelle and husband Rick Egan of Risingson, MD and Madelene and husband Dale of New Jersey; and four grandchildren: Madi, Mia, Layla and Claire.

            He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Adrene Applegate.
