Geraldine Fern McCormick, 93, of Oshkosh went to be with the Lord Monday afternoon April 24, 2017 at the Regional West Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 29, 2017 at the Church of Christ in Oshkosh with Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Ash Hollow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh.
Geraldine was born March 8, 1924, to William and Elizabeth White in Kit Carson, Colorado. Her family moved to Oshkosh, Nebraska, when she was two. She graduated from Garden County High School in 1942. After high school, she moved to Idaho and then Denver working for the telephone company. In 1944, she joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served for 15 months, being discharged at the end of WWII. After discharge, she returned to the Denver and Idaho areas.
Geraldine married Donald B. McCormick on July 16, 1954, in Idaho, and moved to Lewellen and then to the family farm east of Oshkosh where she spent the next 56 years. She worked hard on the farm helping her husband, tending large gardens, raising chickens, square dancing and being involved in her four children’s lives. In her later years, she enjoyed playing bridge and card games with her family and friends. She spent many hours researching genealogy. She also enjoyed studying her Bible at the kitchen table, working crossword puzzles, crocheting, embroidery and playing solitaire.
She spent many years at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church attending Bible study circles and serving on many committees including Sunday school superintendent. She gave her life to Christ in Christian baptism on September 12, 1985, and became a member of the Garden County Church of Christ until the time of her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth White; husband, Donald; brothers, Arlie White, Harold White; sisters, Clara Orr, Glenrose Wetherby, infant sister Evelyn; son-in-law Jim Jessen and grandson, Stormy Jessen.
Geraldine is survived by her children, Gwen Jessen of Lisco, Galen (Lois) Keas of Alda, Byron (Betty) McCormick of Oshkosh, and Susan (Kent) Elmshaeuser of North Platte; grandchildren, Summer (Anthony) Parker, Mariah Jessen, Laura (Jared) Kerkman, Kelly (Mitch) Lahm, Crystal Shield, Sarah (Ben) Halkyard, Lance (Barbie) Elmshaeuser, Rianna Elmshaeuser and Aaron(Elisa) Elmshaeuser; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the employees of the Riverview Assisted Living and Regional West Garden County Nursing Home for their kind, thoughtful care of Geraldine in her later years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to Garden County Church of Christ, Regional West Garden County Nursing Home, or the donor’s choice.
