David DeLaet, 94, of Lewellen, passed away Saturday evening, October 26, 2019 at the Regional West Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Lewellen United Methodist Church with Pastor Janie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Homes and Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the DeLaet family.
David Duane DeLaet was born June 23, 1925, at Riverdale, Nebraska, the second son of Henry and Mattie (Leslie) DeLaet. He spent all of his youth in the area north of Kearney, graduating from high school at Pleasanton, in the spring of 1942.
On September 23, 1948 he joined the Air Force at Grand Island, Nebraska. After basic training he was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in California with the rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged on December 2, 1949.
David married DeLoris Clark on May 7, 1953 in Kearney, Nebraska and to this union 3 children, Dwight, Dee Anna and Dru were born.
David and DeLoris inherited the Clark farm and spent their lives farming that ground and acquiring neighboring land. In March of 1981 the DeLaet family was presented an award by the North Platte Natural Resources District as the honor “Conservation Family of the Year”.
David and DeLoris are members of the Lewellen United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Dwight and wife, Peggy DeLaet of Omaha and Dru DeLaet and wife Patricia Gordon of Lewellen; grandchildren, Angie and husband Ryan Gobel, Brita DeLaet, Alexander DeLaet, and Abby and husband Ben; brother, Lynn and wife Ann DeLaet of Kearney; sister-in-law, Carolee Matthews; and many nieces nephews and cousins from Colorado, Arizona and Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, DeLoris, daughter, Dee Anna, and his parents.
