Donna Schlake

Donna Schlake, 96, formerly of Chappell, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 11, 2023 at the Chimney Rock Villa at Bayard.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2023 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chappell.  Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery.  There will be no visitation.

Memorials in Donna’s name can be made to the Chappell Zion Lutheran Church.

Donna Ruth was born November 5, 1926 in rural Garden County to Edwin and Martha (Blanke) Orth.  She attended rural Garden County Schools.

On October 5, 1947 she was united in marriage to Fred Ira Schlake at the Grace Lutheran Church in Chappell.

Donna worked as a waitress and at the grocery store in Chappell.  She gave music lessons in Big Springs and was the organist for Grace Lutheran and later at Zion Lutheran.

She loved to crochet, especially Christmas ornaments.  She always had a beautiful garden and loved to grow flowers.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews and other extended family.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Lonnie Schlake, daughter, Peggy Schlake, 2 sisters, Pauline Bronson and Wilma Weigand, and 2 brothers, Melvin Orth and Alvin Orth.
