Jack Clayton Freeman was born in Bryson City, North Carolina on March 31st, 1947 to Adam and Dorothy Freeman. They later moved to Cleveland, Ohio with his five brothers and sister where he attended trade school. After graduating trade school, Jack joined the Marines where he served as a Sergeant from 1967 to 1974. During this time, he married Candance Freeman and to them one daughter was born: Melissa Diane Freeman. Following his time in the military, Jack worked at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia as a horse carriage driver for 9 years. This job was one of his greatest prides. He loved to wave to everyone and take care of the horses. He even appeared on post cards for the reenactment town. While working there, he met the love of his life, Janie Freeman, and they married on November 25th, 1995. Together, they decided to move to the Midwest where Jack worked on the Union Pacific Railroad as an F&O for 9 years.
Jack was always greeting people at church making everyone feel welcome. He was a true Southern gentleman. Not a single lady would open a door while Jack was around, not even a car door and never an ill word was spoken by Jack. During luncheons at church Jack could be found in the kitchen doing the dishes and not letting a single lady touch a dish. He was known to chase them out of the kitchen to eat or be with their children. He always looked forward to Christmas so he could grow out his beard to play Santa and make the season a little more magical for children. During the evenings, he would set out the card table to play cards with his wife, do word search puzzles and, on Saturdays, watch Americas Funniest Home Videos. He loved long car rides with his wife and grandchildren and reading books out loud along the way. He loved his God with all of his heart and passed on that love and devotion to his grandchildren, always helping to guide them through life choices with words of wisdom from the word of God.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Freeman, of Oshkosh and children, Diane Checcho of Orlando, FL, Jeanie Keeton (Bill) of Wodonga, Australia, J. Lee Eggers of Lincoln, AK, Josie Roundy (David) of Stratton, NE, Joseph Eggers (Shannon) of Summerville, SC, 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
