James Patterson

April 1, 1921 — April 29, 2022

James A. Patterson, 101, of Oshkosh, went to join his heavenly family on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Regional West Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh. 

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the Oshkosh United Methodist Church with Pastor Seung Park officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Ash Hollow Cemetery with military honors.

The funeral service will be streamed live via the Holechek-Bondegard Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/hbfunerals) and available to watch after the service.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Oshkosh United Methodist Church.

James Alexander was born April 1, 1921 to James and Lena (Gordon) Patterson in Lewellen, Nebraska.  

He attended Oshkosh High school where he excelled in sports.  After graduation he farmed with his brother before serving two years in the Army during World War II in the China, Burma, and India areas.  Upon returning home, he bought a filling station in Lewellen. 

He married Ione (Becky) Beckley June 19, 1952.  His family was completed with the adoption of daughter Sandra Sue in October 1955.

The family moved to Ogallala in 1962 where Jim worked as an auto parts person. After retiring from there they moved to Oshkosh to run the Gambles store.  

Jim served on several boards over the years and was a member of numerous organizations including the local square dance club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He delighted in entertaining his family and friends at their lake cabin.  He took great pride in being the perfect host and having manicured yards, both at the lake and in town.

He is survived by his wife, Becky, sister-in-law, Alice Patterson, and a host of adoring nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sandy Patterson, sisters and brothers-in-law: Mae and Emory Orr, Marjorie and George Orr, Winnie and Rosco Roberts, Nellie and Tom Loyd, Lillian and Duane Robinson, Dorothy and R.C. Fischer, brother William Patterson, and nephew Merlin Orr.
