Neva V. (Lehn) Schmid, youngest child of John J. and Emma (Petz) Lehn was born at Nelson, Nebraska on December 11, 1922.  At the age of 4 she moved with her parents and 4 siblings to Chappell.  She attended the Chappell Grade School and several rural schools, graduating from Chappell High School in 1940.

Before graduating, she had begun working at the Triple A office, later Deputy County Clerk.  After her sons were in school, she worked at the Deuel County State Bank for 30 years.

She was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Grace Lutheran Church.  At Grace Lutheran she taught Sunday school, served on the church council, was a W.E.L.C.A. member and faithfully attended bible study each week.

On December 28, 1944, she was united in marriage to Sgt. Kenneth H. Schmid.   After returning from 4 years serving his country, they moved to the family farm where there 2 sons, Lonnie and Jon were born and raised.  They resided on the farm for 50 years until ill health required a move into Chappell.

Neva is survived by her son, Jon and wife, Jane of North Platte.  3 grandchildren, Jennifer, Travis, and Tadd; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, her son, Lonnie, her parents, 2 brothers, Lawrence and Leonard, 2 sisters, Alice Higgins and Laura Terry, and special cousin, Ruth Wise.
