Rose Melvin

September 5, 1949 — February 16, 2020

Rose Melvin, 70, of Chappell passed away Sunday evening, February 16, 2020 at her home.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Chappell United Methodist Church with Pastor Rod Wright officiating.  Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials in Rose’s name can be made to her family for later designation.

Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home and Cremations in Chappell is serving the Melvin family.

Rose Marie (Siegel) Melvin was born September 5, 1949 in Red Cloud, Nebraska to Lewis and Alice (Hall) Siegel for a family of 6 children.

Rose went to an all-girls catholic school in Omaha and graduated at the age of 16.  She then went on to study nursing and graduated again at the age of 18.

Rose married and in 1972 she had a daughter Karen (Melvin) Kalb.

The family moved to Chappell in 1975 and Rose started working at the station now known as Hansen’s for 43 years.  In 1987 she took a second job at the Deuel County Courthouse for 23 years.

Rose loved reading, playing cards, visiting with everyone at the station and spending time with her family.

Rose is survived by her daughter Karen (Matt) Kalb; grandchildren, Jacob (Kara) Shaw, Adryan Shaw, Levi Kalb; great-grandchildren, Braxtynn, Ryddy K, Landon, Caleb, Gracelynn and Lucy; brother, Louis (Polly) Siegel; sister, Ginnie Bohac; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Alice Siegel; and brothers, Ben and Bob Siegel.
